Client Overview

Big Heritage is a multi-site organisation operating public-facing heritage attractions, including Deva Roman Experience and Western Approaches. As with many growing organisations managing multiple venues, their operating model depends on reliable infrastructure, effective IT support, and practical security controls that protect both visitors and staff.

Cirrus was engaged to implement enhanced CCTV services across two sites, strengthening physical security while providing improved operational visibility.

Challenge

Public heritage venues present specific security requirements.

Sites must protect visitors, staff, and assets while operating in buildings that may have structural constraints and high footfall. Camera placement must provide comprehensive coverage without disrupting the visitor experience or daily operations.

Big Heritage required:

  • Clear visibility across priority areas.
  • Infrastructure capable of supporting modern CCTV systems.
  • Minimal disruption during installation.
  • A solution that staff could operate independently without ongoing complexity.

The objective was not simply installation, but a controlled and sustainable security upgrade.

Solution

Cirrus assumed responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of the CCTV solution across both locations.

Our approach focused on three core stages:

Requirements Definition and Site Assessment
We met with stakeholders to understand security concerns, coverage priorities, and operational constraints. Detailed site surveys were conducted to determine optimal camera positioning, cabling routes, and infrastructure requirements.

Design and Deployment Planning
A tailored system design was produced for each site, ensuring full coverage while respecting structural and operational considerations. The deployment plan was structured to minimise disruption to visitors and staff.

Controlled Installation and Enablement
We installed all required cabling and supporting infrastructure, deployed and configured cameras and the central management system, and conducted full system testing to validate coverage and performance. Training sessions were delivered to enable client teams to manage the system confidently and make use of self-service capabilities.

Throughout the project, workmanship standards and operational continuity were maintained as primary controls.

Outcome

Following implementation, Big Heritage achieved:

Improved site safety and protection
Enhanced camera coverage across key areas strengthens deterrence and incident response capability.

Operational visibility and reporting
The system provides clearer monitoring and improved access to footage when required.

Empowered on-site teams
Staff training enables day-to-day management without dependency on external intervention.

Scalable infrastructure
The solution is designed to accommodate future expansion should site requirements evolve.

This delivery provides Big Heritage with a structured and reliable security foundation, aligned to the operational demands of public-facing heritage environments and positioned to support long-term site management.
